Alexander Andreyevich Samarskii began his teaching career in 1942, when he worked after the injury as a mathematics teacher in a school at the mine "Communar" in the Krasnoyarsk Region in Siberia.

At the Moscow State University, A. Samara began to work in 1945. In 1948-1958, he worked as a Docent, from 1958 - as a Professor of the Physics Faculty, in 1961-1970 years - a Professor of Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty, since 1970 - a Professor at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics.

A.A. Samarskii was the organizer and the head of chair of computational methods at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of MSU (since 1982) and the head of the chair of mathematical modeling of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Economics of MIPT (since 1969).

In 1951, the first edition of the joint with A.N. Tikhonov textbook "Equations of mathematical physics" was printed. There were 7 editions of this book in Russian and it was translated into 13 languages, becoming one of the most widely read publications in its field. This tutorial was the basis of the same course taught in the Physics Faculty of Moscow State University and in many technical universities of the country.

In addition, A.A. Samarskii was the author of several other tutorials and books on the problems of mathematical physics, computational mathematics, theory of difference schemes, in particular, "Introduction to the theory of difference schemes" (1971), "Stability of difference schemes" (1973), "Difference schemes of gas dynamics" (1975 ), "Difference methods for solutions of elliptic equations" (1976), "The theory of difference schemes" (1977) and others.
